I'm Dean Neighbour, a registered psychologist based in Maroochydore. I work with children, teenagers, adults and families — offering therapy, neurodevelopmental assessments, and specialist support for veterans and first responders.
The practice is at 7-9 Plaza Parade in Maroochydore, central enough to be accessible from across the Sunshine Coast. Telehealth is also available for clients who prefer to meet online or who live further afield.
We offer a broad range of psychology services from our Maroochydore practice. Most of what we do falls into three areas: therapy for children, teens and adults; comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments; and specialist support for people who've worked in military or emergency services roles.
Sessions are 50 minutes. You'll see the same psychologist every visit — that consistency matters, particularly for children and for people who've had mixed experiences with mental health services in the past.
New clients are typically seen within one to two weeks of making contact.
We regularly see clients from Buderim, Kawana, Sippy Downs, Mooloolaba, Caloundra, Noosa, Palmwoods and Woombye. Maroochydore sits centrally enough that most Sunshine Coast families can get here without too much trouble.
For those further out, Telehealth works well for therapy sessions and assessment feedback appointments. We'll let you know at the time of booking what needs to happen in person and what can be done remotely.
A large part of our practice involves children and teenagers. We see kids from early primary school age through to late adolescence and work closely with parents throughout — particularly for younger children.
Common reasons families come to see us include school anxiety, emotional and behavioural difficulties, social challenges, and concerns about neurodevelopmental differences. Sometimes parents aren't sure what's going on and just know something isn't right. That's a reasonable starting point.

We conduct a full range of neurodevelopmental and psycho-educational assessments for children, teenagers and adults — including ADHD assessments, autism assessments, psycho-educational assessments, combined ADHD and autism assessments, and comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments.
Every assessment includes structured testing, a full written report and a dedicated feedback session. Reports are suitable for schools, GPs and NDIS applications.

We work with adults dealing with anxiety, OCD, depression, grief, life transitions and workplace stress. For anxiety and OCD, we use evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy and structured exposure work.
If you're not sure whether what you're experiencing warrants seeing a psychologist — if it's affecting your daily life, it's worth talking to someone about.

Dean has a particular interest in working with current and former military personnel, police, paramedics, firefighters and other emergency services workers. Before training as a psychologist, Dean served 13 years in the Royal Australian Air Force. He understands operational culture and why standard mental health approaches can feel off the mark.
DVA-funded sessions are available for eligible veterans.
