Fees & rebates

Specialist Assessment Fees

Clear, all-inclusive packages covering the full assessment process — from initial interview through to written report and feedback session.

What the fee covers

The cost of an assessment reflects the full scope of professional work involved — most of which happens outside of your appointment time.

10–15 hours of professional time

A typical assessment involves preparation, the testing sessions themselves, scoring, analysis, report writing and a feedback session — most of which is unseen time you don't sit through but that shapes the quality of the result.

Validated assessment tools

Every assessment uses validated, evidence-based tools appropriate to the age and presentation of the person being assessed. This ensures findings are reliable, defensible, and suitable for use with schools, NDIS and other professionals.

A detailed written report

Your report covers developmental history, test findings, identified strengths and challenges, and practical recommendations. Reports meet the documentation standards required for NDIS applications, school support plans and GP or specialist referrals.

One psychologist throughout

Dean conducts every stage of the assessment himself — the interview, the testing, the report and the feedback session. There's no handoff between clinicians, which means better continuity and a more coherent picture of the person being assessed.

Specialised for children and adolescents

Assessing children requires additional time, different tools and more involvement from parents and schools. Child assessments are typically more complex than adult assessments and take longer to administer and interpret.

A feedback session is included

At the end of the process, Dean meets with you — and where appropriate, your child — to walk through the findings, explain what the results mean in plain language, and discuss what comes next. This session is included in the package fee.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an assessment take?

It depends on the type of assessment. Most assessments involve two to three appointments, each typically one to two hours long. Combined assessments (e.g. Autism + ADHD) take longer due to the broader scope of testing involved.

Once testing is complete, allow two to three weeks for the written report to be prepared. From your first appointment to receiving the report, most assessments are completed within four to eight weeks.

What is the process?

Every assessment follows a clear four-stage process:

  • Initial interview — background history is gathered from parents or carers and, where appropriate, the person being assessed.
  • Testing sessions — standardised assessments are conducted with the individual, typically across one to two appointments.
  • Report writing — findings are analysed and a written report is prepared covering key results, strengths, challenges and practical recommendations.
  • Feedback session — results are discussed in detail, with time to ask questions and talk through next steps for home, school or work.
Are assessment fees covered by Medicare?

Medicare rebates may apply in some circumstances when a valid Mental Health Care Plan is in place. Not all assessment components attract a Medicare rebate, and some assessments are privately billed. We provide clear information about fees and rebates prior to commencing the assessment process so there are no surprises.

Do I need a referral?

A referral is not required to access an assessment. If you wish to claim a Medicare rebate and the assessment is eligible, a referral and Mental Health Care Plan from a GP or psychiatrist may be required. We're happy to talk this through with you.

What's included in the written report?

Reports outline key findings, identified strengths and areas of difficulty, and practical recommendations. They can be shared with schools, GPs or other professionals if requested.

Are there optional add-ons?

Yes — school visits, extended feedback sessions for parents and teachers, and liaison with other professionals can be arranged and are priced separately. Ask us when you enquire.
