At Neighbourhood Psychology, we provide warm, affirming psychological support for children, teenagers, and families across Maroochydore and the Sunshine Coast, with a particular focus on neurodiverse children, including those with Autism (ASD) and ADHD.
We take a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach. Rather than focusing on “fixing” difficulties, we work to understand each child’s unique way of thinking, learning, and experiencing the world. From there, we build practical skills, emotional regulation, confidence, and connection — supporting children to thrive in ways that feel authentic to them.
We also offer comprehensive neurodevelopmental and cognitive assessments, including assessments for Autism, ADHD, and learning profiles. These assessments are designed not just to provide clarity around diagnosis, but to give meaningful insight into a child’s strengths, challenges, and how best to support them at home and at school.
Our practice is led by Dean Neighbour, a registered psychologist with over 13 years of experience in the Royal Australian Air Force. Dean brings a calm, grounded, and compassionate approach, alongside extensive experience supporting young people with emotional, behavioural, and developmental differences. He works closely with parents, schools, and other supports to ensure a consistent and practical approach across environments.
Dean also has a strong interest in supporting veterans and first responders. Drawing on his own military background, he understands the unique challenges associated with service, transition, and trauma, and provides a respectful, practical approach to supporting mental health and wellbeing in this community.
